EURO21 - A United Front
In 2021, before and after the Euro 2020 final, England's football players faced significant racial abuse, particularly online. I went to Trafalgar Square to photograph the final screening to counter this negativity. I wanted to capture the cultural diversity among England supporters and showcase the unity and inclusiveness of the fans. There is a racist element among some supporters, but I also see the vast majority who embrace diversity, especially in urban centres like London, where I grew up. This photo collection aims to challenge racism and highlight the inclusive spirit of England's supporters, promoting mutual respect and solidarity. This project is deeply personal to me. I wanted to show that while there are issues, the majority of fans celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes up England. Through these images, I aim to emphasise that football transcends racial and cultural boundaries and fosters a spirit of unity and mutual respect.
